Swiss Water® Decaffeination Process
San Francisco Bay Coffee utilizes the environment-friendly Swiss Water® Process, which does not rely on chemicals to extract the caffeine. Instead it involves soaking the unroasted (green) coffee beans in very hot, pure water to essentially dissolve the caffeine and then filter it out.
Our decaf coffee uses the Swiss Water® Process to remove 99.9% of the caffeine and is 100% delicious!
This is done via the Swiss Water® Process, which utilizes a proprietary carbon filter that traps the caffeine molecules but allows all of the flavor compounds to remain intact and be reabsorbed by the beans. Our team carefully monitors the 10-hour process, and caffeine levels are measured throughout to ensure compliance with our end result of 99.9% less caffeine while also being 100% delicious!
How The Process Works:
Step 1:
High quality green coffee beans are cleaned and soaked in hot water to open the pores of the bean.
Step 2:
The opened pores allow the oils, flavor and caffeine to flush out of the bean. The beans are taken to filtration where oils and flavor are reabsorbed.
Step 3:
The beans are now ready to be dried.
Step 4:
Finally, the beans are polished to prepare for roasting.
